Author and poet Cooper will discuss her latest work, Know The Mother, a collection of short stories focused on the role of a mother. Cooper is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist, a former attorney and Detroit community activist. Know the Mother is a Michigan Notable Book for 2017. Gaines returns with Invincible Summers, her debut novel set in a middle class suburb outside of Detroit beginning in the 1960s. This novel revolves around Claudia, a ten-year-old girl who is dealing with the loss of her father. Gaines has work published in literary journals, magazines and anthologies. Mardi Jo Link, a local favorite, is the author of When Evil Came to Good Hart, Isidore’s Secret, winner of the Michigan Notable Book Award, Bootstrapped: From Broke to Badass On a Northern Michigan Farm, an Indie Next List pick and her latest memoir,
The Drummond Girls: A Story of Fierce Friendship Beyond Time and Chance. Mary Kay Zuravleff has written The Bowl Is Already Broken, The Frequency of Souls and Man Alive!, a 2013 Washington Post Notable book. She is the cofounder of NoveltyDC, offering group and individual book help through a series of classes and consultation. While Cooper, Gaines and Link are Michigan authors, Zuravleff is from Washington D.C.
