Birding at Iron Horse Farms
Situated at the top of the Chain-of-Lakes, this 200-acre private property includes open fields, woods, streams, wetlands and the shoreline on Wilson Lake. Terrain includes paths, trails and boardwalks. Wear waterproof shoes or boots and come prepared for insects. For more information contact Tracy at tadatl@live.com. Directions: Location is between Ellsworth and Central Lake at 6774 Ellsworth Road. Look for Audubon sign at meeting point. The property is large so we meet first at 6774 Ellsworth Road and do some backyard birding at the farmhouse of Deb & Russ. Then we organize ourselves into carpools and drive to the various locations on the property. Allow 2 hours minimum. Optional lunch in Ellsworth after the walk. Last year we identified 48 species at this location thanks to the great variety of habitats. Due to the owner's schedule, this may be our only opportunity to explore this private property this year.
