Harbor History Talk - Mackinac Bridge
The Mackinac Bridge is one of Michigan’s most recognizable structures. Completed in 1957, the “Mighty Mac” paved the way for tourism and economic development between the Upper and Lower peninsulas. The Harbor Springs Area Historical Society invites you to learn more about this engineering marvel at their next Harbor History Talk. Join them on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 5:30 pm to welcome presenter Kim Nowack, Chief Engineer for the Mackinac Bridge Authority. Nowack’s presentation will cover the history of transportation in the Straits area and the building of the Mackinac Bridge. She will also talk about maintenance on the bridge and bridge-related current events. Nowack received her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Tech in 1985. In 1989, she moved to the MDOT Project Office in St. Ignace where she stayed until 1997. In April of 2002, Kim accepted the position of Chief Engineer for the Mackinac Bridge Authority. She is the first woman to hold this position in the Bridge Authority’s 60-year history. Reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling the Historical Society at (231) 526-9771 or emailing info@harborspringshistory.org.
