    September is National Falls Prevention Month and Friday, September 22, 2017, the first day of fall, is National Falls Prevention Awareness Day! Join McLaren Northern Michigan for a day of events promoting the health and well-being of our older adults, as they are at a high risk for falls and unintentional injuries. The day of events is FREE for all individuals. We want to promote different activities that will give guidance and information to prevent falls from happening in the future, along with all that we offer through McLaren Northern Michigan and the John and Marnie Demmer Wellness Pavilion and Dialysis Center. The day of events will take place at the John and Marnie Demmer Wellness Pavilion and Dialysis Center from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. We hope to see you there! There will be two back-to-back sessions with the same offerings. Pick which time frame will best suit your schedule! ** Registration for each activity is preferred. Please visit northernhealth.org/classes to register. ** Session 1: 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. Falls Prevention Presentation 1 9:15 – 9:45 a.m. Balance Screenings & Facility Tours 1 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. Tai Chi Class 1 Session 2: 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. Falls Prevention Presentation 2 10:45 – 11:15 a.m. Balance Screenings & Facility Tours 2 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Tai Chi Class 2 There will be prizes and giveaways!   • Safe Home Harvest Food and Supply Drive Safe Home Harvest Food and Supply Drive

    Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan’s (WRCNM) Harvest Food and Supply Drive supports survivors and their children seeking refuge from domestic abuse at the Safe Home.  Last year, the Safe Home provided families 3,000 nights of shelter, 9,000 meals and all daily needs at no cost.  Donations of non-perishable foods, household supplies, personal care items, grocery gift cards and financial contributions help make the Safe Home feel like ‘home’ for many families utilizing these vital services.

    The 2017 Juried Fine Arts Exhibition of 2D and relief work will be presented in the Ermy B. & Gordon B. Bonfield Gallery from October 21 through January 6. The 2017 Juried Fine Arts Exhibition is open to all Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ontario residents, and to all members of Crooked Tree Arts Center regardless of residency. Applicants must be 18 years or older, working in 2D and relief (that can be exhibited on walls).  Awards will be announced at the opening on Saturday, October 21, between the hours of 2-4 p.m. Click for more information.
