St. Michael Academy Announces Third Speaker for Lecture Series: “What is Classical Catholic Education?”
PETOSKEY – April 17, 2019 – St. Michael Academy (SMA), Northern Michigan’s only Classical Catholic high school, today announced the third lecture of its spring series, “What is Classical Catholic Education?,” on Friday, April 26th at 7:00pm at the Holy Childhood Parish Hall, 150 E. Main St. in Harbor Springs.
The event will feature Zachary Good, Dean of Faculty and Curriculum for Sacred Heart Academy of Grand Rapids, who recently led the school’s transition to the Classical curriculum. He also implemented its Classical Enrichment program, a highly-successful outreach to the home school community. Mr. Good is the author of “An Explanation and Defense of Catholic Classical Education” and has degrees in Classical Studies and English Literature from Hillsdale College.
SMA Principal Dr. Richard Brake noted, “The dramatic turnaround of Sacred Heart Academy in downtown Grand Rapids is emblematic of the surge of interest in Classical Catholic education all across the country. Mr. Good is a national leader in both the Classical curriculum and in forging home school partnerships. We look forward to his sharing first-hand wisdom and knowledge as we learn from the Sacred Heart experience and deliver Classical Catholic education at SMA, while developing partnerships with families across Northern Michigan, as well as local Catholic schools like St. Mary in Charlevoix, St. Francis Xavier in Petoskey, and Bishop Baraga in Cheboygan.”
SMA’s spring lecture series is being held in conjunction with its “20/20 Vision” Recruitment Campaign, designed to boost enrollment significantly by 2020. A primary purpose of the series is to explain the motivations, challenges, and benefits of a Classical education, and to help our community understand how Truth, Beauty, and Goodness – what we call the St. Michael Difference - can be employed to attract parents who want a better education for their teenagers.
SMA is now accepting students for enrollment in the 2019-20 academic year. Interested families who enroll their students by May 1st will qualify for a $1000 per year tuition discount, and will lock-in that amount for the duration of their child’s tenure at SMA. For more information, or to RSVP for this lecture series, please contact the SMA office at 231-881-9025 or email the Principal Dr. Brake at drbrake@stmichaelpetoskey.org.
Established in 2013, SMA is the first Catholic high school in the Little Traverse area since 1972, and Northern Michigan’s only high school offering a Classical Curriculum. SMA strives to develop the whole person, cultivating academic, moral, and all-around excellence in its students, from within a caring and attentive environment.
