Thrive 45 Young Professionals Cultivate Event: Anishinaabe 101
Join Thrive45 on Wednesday, October 20 for their first Cultivate event of 2021. It will take place from 9-11am at Genesis Church Petoskey (1124 Northman Drive). Cost is $20 for Thrive 45 members and general public. It is free for LTBB citizens or other Indigenous persons would like to further connect with their culture.
Anishinaabe 101 will be presented by Meredith Kennedy, a Waganakising Odawak and citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians. She will be providing a historical and cultural overview of the local Odawa and other area Anishinaabe Peoples. She will also highlight what local Odawa are currently doing to build an enriching, sovereign, and just future for themselves and our entire community.
She previously worked as a Director at LTBB government and Intertribal Council of Michigan. Using these experiences as well as her lived experience as an Indigenous leader and mother of six, she is dedicated to creating systems change in our community through partnerships, education, and direct assistance. Meredith now owns a small business, Native North Tours & Storytelling, and serves as the executive director for a new nonprofit, Miigwech, Inc..
Registration and networking take place from 9am – 9:25am. Coffee and individually wrapped bagels will be available. The program takes place from 9:30 to 10:30. Q&A and networking to follow until 11am. This is an indoor event with COVID precautions in place, including masks, distanced seating and individually wrapped snacks..
