Winter Speaker Series - In Situ as Pollution Response
The United State's Coast Guard is responsible for the planning and preparedness to respond to oil spills and hazardous substance incidents in the marine environment, ensuring all appropriate response tactics are considered for removal of pollutants. Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste Marie, in conjuction with the Northern Michigan Area Committee, has an ongoing effort to explore the feasibility of using In Situ (on-site) Burning as a pollution response tactic in the Straits of Mackinac and other Michigan waters.
