    The YMCA of Northern Michigan, a branch of the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA, is looking for individuals looking to oversee our after school child care locations. This individual would oversee the operations of the site location ensuring a safe and fun environment for the children to learn and grow after school. This candidate would thrive in this position if they have a love for working with children, have great leadership skills and can communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals.   


    Site Supervisor - YMCA of Northern Michigan

    Reports To: Youth Development Coordinator
    Department: Youth Development
    Classification: Part Time, Non-Exempt


    At the Y, we believe children should have a place to explore their talents  & interests. The YMCA HOST(Healthy Out of School Time) program focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, education & social development for students. The HOST supervisor will oversee the site location and will be in charge of ensuring a safe and nurtured environment for students to learn, grow and thrive.



    · Responsible for the daily operation and implementation of the site program, supervision of the site staff, and overall care and supervision of children

    · Support program coordinator with developing, implementing, and evaluating program and center policies 

    · Administer day-to-day operations, including being available to address parent, child, and staff issues 

    · Assist in providing a safe and fun environment for the children to learn, grow and thrive

    · Cleaning duties as outlined

    · 16 clock hours of continuing education including classes, conferences, workshops, and in-services to enhance the knowledge and understanding of serving school aged children

    · Maintain a positive attitude toward each child, co-worker, and inquiring parents and communicate effectively regarding pertinent information 

    · Communication to the Youth Development Coordinator regarding issues, concerns, supplies, or needs within the classroom

    · Work within the guidelines of the YMCA’s mission, areas of focus, and board-adopted strategic plan; in particular, exemplify YMCA values at all times 

    All other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor 




    · At least 19 years of age. 

    · High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

    · 480 hours of experience working as a childcare staff member in a program serving school-age children

    · 15 clock hours, 1 semester hour, or 1.5 CEUs of documented school-age training

    · Adult, Child, and Infant CPR/AED and First Aid within 90 days of hire

    · Clear TB test

    · Clear Child Care Background Check – Fingerprinting 

    · Responsible, dependable, enthusiastic, and able to communicate effectively

    · Excellent oral and written communications skills, including computer skills

    · Outgoing personality and experience engaging with the public by phone and in person

    · Early Childhood Education or Child Development coursework (preferred)
