DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite Traverse City's Robert Downes\, author of Windigo Moon\, for a visit on Thursday\, September 14th at 6 p.m. A renowned world traveler\, Robert is the author of Planet Backpacker\, Travels with My Wife and Biking Northern Michigan. This wine and cheese in-store event is free with reservations requested.\n\nFour hundred years ago\, two lovers battled forces which would change their world forever. \n\n\n\nIt was a time of warring tribes\, the Little Ice Age of the 1600s\, and the plagues of the "shadow men" from across the sea - men believed to be demons. A time of the Windigo Moon. This is the story of the Anishinaabek\, the "True People" of the Ojibwe of the Upper Great Lakes\, with unforgettable characters and extensive research into the lives of the early Native Americans.\n\n \n\nA former newspaper editor\, Downes co-founded the alternative newsweekly\, Northern Express\, in Traverse City in 1991.  He and his wife Jeannette have two adult children and seven grandchildren. The couple make their winter home in Mexico and Central America. Windigo Moon is his first novel.
