Senior aquatic biologist Aaron Parker from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy and Dr. Jan Stevenson from the MSU Department of Integrative Biology will discuss algal growths in Northern Michigan lakes. Parker will describe spatial patterns of cyanobacteria (some of which can produce toxins) blooms throughout the state, characteristics of water bodies that experience them, and toxin production dynamics. Stevenson will discuss the characteristics and potential causes of golden-brown algae that is occurring on lake bottoms.
