  • EMERGENCY RESPONSE FUND - MCLAREN NORTHERN MICHIGAN

As the extraordinary health care crisis closes doors in our northern Michigan community and around the globe, our doors remain open as they have for over 100 years. Every day, our staff arrive at McLaren Northern Michigan with one intention – to care for patients. Your support of the Emergency Response Fund enables us to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients and our community during this unprecedented time.

Donations to this fund will ensure that McLaren Northern Michigan, is equipped with the resources and flexibility required to meet the critical and emerging needs of our hospital, our caregivers and our patients in times of crisis. Already, gifts to this fund have helped to secure personal protective equipment and supplies to protect our staff and our patients. We are so very grateful for the outpouring of support that we’ve witnessed from our community.

McLaren Northern Michigan is a non-profit, 202-bed regional referral center, serving residents in 22 counties across northern Lower Michigan and the eastern part of the Upper Peninsula.

As of April 11, 2020, we are accepting donations of home-sewn masks. Following new CDC guidelines, McLaren Northern Michigan will provide homemade facemasks donated by community members to patients and their caregivers when they are discharged from the hospital, as well as to patients at outpatient clinics and McLaren Home Care & Hospice. Donated facemasks will also be provided to staff for use in the community. The cloth facemasks do not replace surgical masks or N-95 respirators and will not be used in patient care areas. Facemasks will be commercially laundered before being distributed.

Community members who are healthy, willing, and able to make and donate face masks are encouraged to use the CDC pattern available online at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html. McLaren Northern Michigan prefers cotton ties to elastic bands.

Please call the Foundation at 231-487-3500 to arrange a drop off time for your donation. Donations will be accepted in Petoskey and Cheboygan. DO NOT bring your donations directly to the hospital or emergency departments – we are restricting visitors at this time.

  • McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation established the Emergency Response Fund to ensure that the hospital has the resources and flexibility to meet critical and emerging needs in times of crisis. All gifts to the McLaren Northern Michigan Emergency Response Fund stay in northern Michigan and provide local support for:

    • The purchase of masks, gowns, gloves and other essential personal protective equipment required to ensure the health and safety of our healthcare team
    • Medical supplies and equipment for the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, or other clinical areas as a result of high demand
    • Patient assistance
    • Programs, services, staff education, and other critical needs that develop during a health-related crisis

Already, funds have been deployed to secure respirators (often referred to as PAPRs) and other protective equipment that is essential to safeguard our frontline caregivers. Thank you!

“The entire McLaren Northern Michigan staff is grateful for the outpouring of community support,” said Julie Jarema, Senior Director of Development.

“No one knows what the next weeks or months will bring but what we do know is that we have an amazing community who has stepped up to help us care for our loved ones, friends and neighbors,” she continued.
