Bay View American Experience
Once again, American Experience offers one of America’s most distinguished historians. Allyson Hobbs is an Associate Professor at Stanford University and Director of African and African American Studies.
Hobbs is a gifted storyteller. She is a contributing writer to The New Yorker and a Distinguished Lecturer for the Organization of American Historians. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, The Nation, The Guardian, Politico, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. She has appeared on C-SPAN, MSNBC and National Public Radio. In 2017, she was honored by the Silicon Valley chapter of the NAACP with a Freedom Fighter Award. She has served on the jury for the Pulitzer Prize in History. We will hear her perspectives on African American cultural history of the 19th and 20th Century, a topic not yet covered in our 18 years of AE lectures.
Professor Hobbs will speak July 11-15, Monday through Friday from 10 to 11 at Voorhies Hall with two informal small group discussions to be scheduled. Her books will be available for signing on Thursday, after her lecture. Please join us.
