Rediscovering Petoskey’s Winter Carnival
Dylan Taylor, Former Executive Director at the Little Traverse History MuseumPetoskey’s Winter Carnival began in 1927, eventually becoming the “Michigan Winter Carnival, drawing thousands of visitors from around the state. The Carnival, held at the Winter Sports Park, featured figure skating, hockey tournaments, snowshoeing, bumpjumping, sledding, and skiing. At the height of popularity, the Carnival included elaborate ice thrones designed by Stanley Kellogg, a Winter Queen, a skating mule, and toboggan runs down Mitchell Street. Dylan will offer a richly illustrated talk about the history of this extraordinary event.
