    • Discover why SMA graduates are accepted at top universities
    • Check out SMA’s expanding Athletic Program, community service projects, and other extracurricular activities
    • See how SMA's commitment to faith and reason is infused into all that we do, including daily prayer and mission trips
    • Explore our integrated STEM opportunities and plans for a new high-tech laboratory and music studio
Describing the Classical education model, Dr. Brake observes, “Rather than water down our curriculum, our liberal arts program challenges students to master, through the Socratic Method, intellectual heavyweights such as Plato and Aristotle; Augustine and Aquinas; Dante and Shakespeare, to name a few. Our integrated curriculum certainly does not shy away from rigorous Math and Science either, as the Truth resides in these fields of study as well.”
Currently in its sixth year, SMA is the first Catholic high school in the Little Traverse area since 1972, and Northern Michigan's only high school offering a Classical Curriculum. SMA strives to develop the whole person, cultivating academic, moral, and all-around excellence in its students, from within a caring and attentive environment. St. Michael Academy–authentically Catholic, rigorously classical.
At the Academy - 2225 Summit Park Drive, Petoskey, Michigan 49770

Woven Together: The Fiber Work of Sherri Smith @CTAC Woven Together: The Fiber Work of Sherri Smith @CTAC

    Crooked Tree Arts Center
    Aug. 25 - Nov. 17

For nearly 50 years, fiber artist Sherri Smith has been impacting and influencing the field of fiber arts around the world. Smith’s artwork came to prominence after being included in the 1969 groundbreaking exhibition, Wall Hangings, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. In addition to exhibiting her work in museums and galleries across the US and abroad, Smith went on to develop the University of Michigan Stamps School of Art and Design’s fibers program. Now, after four decades of dedicated service to the University, Smith will retire from the Stamps School at the end of the Winter 2018 semester.

Smith’s exhibition features work from her most recent series, Astronomy, which is concerned with science and - at times - mathematics. Inspired by NASA images made by space missions and telescopes, old astronomy drawings, and lunar maps, Smith’s work is a celebration of our ultimate explorations.
