16th Annual Little Traverse CROP Hunger Walk
16th Annual Little Traverse CROP Hunger Walk A virtual walk benefitting Church World Service and northern Michigan food banks The 16th Annual Little Traverse CROP Hunger Walk will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020. This year’s virtual walk allows participants to walk when and where they choose. All contributions received will help Church World Service to feed the hungry and counteract poverty and disasters with self-sustaining projects locally, nationally and throughout the world. Manna Food Project, Brother Dan’s Pantry and Harbor Springs Food Bank will receive a portion of the funds raised. 12% of Emmet County residents have food security needs. That is 12 out of 100 neighbors, friends and family members living in Emmet County. The Support for food banks and local action services is the sharing of Grace. The people with Grace can share Grace to help our Northern Michigan Community and the world. CROP Hunger Walk provides means to share our Grace with others. Individuals, families, businesses and groups are all welcome to participate. More information and registration is available at http://www.crophungerwalk.org/petoskeymi. By following this link, participants may register as individuals, support a local team or create a team. CROP Walk receives widespread support from area businesses, individuals and churches. The Bay View Association has hosted the Little Traverse walk annually. This year there will be no formal gathering or official route as there has been in prior years. However, participants are welcome to walk throughout the scenic grounds of Bay View at the time of their choosing in smaller, socially distanced groups. Last year’s CROP walk held in Bay View was among the top CROP Hunger Walks in the country. The 2019 walk exceeded expectations and raised over $30,000 with $8,000 distributed locally. Walt Byers, Chairman of the 2020 CROP Hunger Walk, is enthusiastic about this year’s format. “This is a difficult year for many people and CROP Hunger Walk is more important than ever. We hope everyone can participate where and how they are able. 2020 offers a unique opportunity for community members who are not physically in the area to contribute wherever they may be.” Bay View Trustee, Karl Hansen adds, “On behalf of the entire Bay View Association and its membership, we are proud of Bay View’s ongoing support of CROP Walk. This annual walk is an example of how Bay View fulfills its mission by supporting the needs of the local community and the world at large. We invite the public to be a part of this event where they are. For people who are in the area, all are warmly welcomed to walk in Bay View at any time.” Executive Director of Manna Food Project Kim Baker says, “Manna is grateful to be working with CROP Hunger Walk again this year. Manna has benefitted from this partnership. We look forward to widespread participation offered by the new virtual format.” To register please follow this link: http://www.crophungerwalk.org/petoskeymi.
