Business Manager

Manna Food Project is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Business Manager to oversee financial operations, human resources administration, office management, and organizational support functions. This position plays a critical leadership role in supporting the organization’s mission to address food insecurity throughout Northern Michigan.
The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting and administrative skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative approach to supporting staff, volunteers, agency partners, and community initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
Financial Management & Accounting- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Process payroll, payroll taxes, and benefits tracking
- Prepare deposits and maintain bookkeeping records
- Monitor inventory tracking and reporting
- Prepare monthly and annual financial reports
- Assist with annual budgeting and financial forecasting
- Support annual financial audit preparation
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax reporting requirements
- Maintain licensing and regulatory documentation
- Present financial reports at Board meetings
- Coordinate employee benefits administration
- Maintain payroll systems and HR records
- Assist with policy development and employee handbook updates
- Monitor labor law compliance
- Answer phones, direct calls, and respond to email inquiries
- Maintain office equipment and order office supplies
- Coordinate with IT, internet, phone, and printer vendors
- Organize and maintain digital filing systems and shared drives
- Assist with agency orders, invoices, and statements
- Support agency partner monitoring and document retention
- Enter and maintain inventory records
- Assist with warehouse month-end entries and reporting
- Support grant reporting and documentation
- Provide administrative and operational support for fundraising events and campaigns
- Support third-party community fundraising events
- Assist with planning and implementation of cooking classes and outreach initiatives
- Assist with electronic communications including website updates, newsletters, and social media
- Support volunteer software systems
- Provide backup support for food distribution and special programs including:
- Food 4 Kids
- Protein Program
- Produce Program
- Dairy Program
- Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, or business management
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Quickbooks
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a nonprofit environment
