Communications & Member Engagement Manager
Posted: 06/21/2026The Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce is seeking a Communications & Member Engagement Manager to help tell the story of our members, our organization, and the Petoskey region.
This is not a quiet, behind-the-scenes communications role. The Chamber is a fast-moving, community-facing organization with a small team, a large membership base, a busy events calendar, and a mission that reaches beyond business alone. We help businesses succeed while enhancing the quality of life in our community. That means our communications must be clear, timely, accurate, welcoming, and rooted in the value our members bring to the region.
The right person for this role will be a strong writer, thoughtful communicator, organized curator, digital content manager, and member-focused problem solver. They will be able to move between newsletters, social media, website updates, press releases, member stories, paid digital opportunities, visitor questions, and the daily realities of a highly active Chamber office.
Position Summary
The Communications & Member Engagement Manager is responsible for leading and supporting the Chamber’s core communication channels, including weekly email publications, website content, social media, press releases, digital member visibility opportunities, and other communications that support Chamber programs, events, advocacy, and member engagement.
This position plays a key role in helping members be seen, helping the community stay informed, and helping the Chamber serve as a trusted catalyst, convener, and connector for the Petoskey region.
Key Responsibilities
Chamber Communications- Develop, compile, edit, and distribute the Chamber’s weekly email communications, including Chamber-focused updates and member news.
- Curate member-submitted news, events, announcements, and community updates for inclusion in Chamber communications.
- Write and edit clear, concise, accurate content that reflects the Chamber’s voice and mission.
- Prepare and distribute press releases, media notices, and public announcements as needed.
- Support communications for Chamber events, programs, advocacy efforts, member services, and community initiatives.
- Maintain a communications calendar to support timely promotion, deadline tracking, and internal coordination.
- Proofread and edit Chamber communications for accuracy, tone, grammar, links, names, dates, and sponsor/member recognition.
- Help members understand and use Chamber communication opportunities, including weekly email submissions, dedicated email placements, digital visibility options, and other promotional benefits.
- Identify opportunities to highlight member stories, milestones, events, community impact, and business news.
- Support development of enhanced member spotlights, digital advertising opportunities, and other revenue-generating communication products.
- Work with the Vice President & Membership Director to ensure communications support member recruitment, retention, and engagement.
- Maintain a member-first approach while applying clear editorial standards and deadlines.
- Update and maintain Chamber website content to ensure information is accurate, timely, and easy to navigate.
- Create or coordinate basic graphics for emails, social media, website updates, and Chamber promotions.
- Manage Chamber social media content, including drafting, scheduling, posting, and monitoring engagement.
- Track basic communication metrics such as email open rates, social engagement, website activity, and digital advertising performance.
- Coordinate with the Events and Program Director to support event and program promotion, sponsor visibility, registration communication, and post-event follow-up.
- Attend select Chamber events to assist with communication needs, photos, social media, registration support, and member engagement.
- Work collaboratively with all Chamber staff to ensure communications are aligned, accurate, and timely.
- Provide general office support as part of a small team, including answering phones, greeting visitors, responding to basic member questions, and helping direct inquiries appropriately.
- Assist with special projects, community initiatives, and other duties as assigned.
- Use ChamberMaster and other Chamber systems to support communication lists, member information, event promotion, billing coordination for paid communication products, and data accuracy.
- Maintain organized files, templates, submission processes, and communication procedures.
- Support consistent processes for member submissions, paid email placements, digital advertising, and recurring communications.
The ideal candidate will have:- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and shift priorities quickly.
- Comfort working in a busy, interruption-heavy office environment.
- Strong judgment in curating content and determining what is timely, relevant, accurate, and appropriate for Chamber communications.
- A friendly, professional, and welcoming approach to members, visitors, partners, and community stakeholders.
- Experience with email marketing, social media, website updates, digital content, or communications strategy.
- Comfort using tools such as Microsoft Office, Canva, email marketing platforms, website content management systems, social media platforms, and databases.
- Willingness to learn Chamber-specific systems.
- Ability to work independently while staying connected to a collaborative small team.
- Appreciation for the role local businesses, nonprofits, public partners, and community organizations play in building a thriving region.
- Experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, nonprofit work, chamber of commerce work, tourism, community engagement, or a related field.
- Experience managing newsletters, digital content, social media, websites, or member/customer communications.
- Experience with graphic design tools, basic website management, or digital advertising.
- Familiarity with the Petoskey region and northern Michigan business/community landscape.
This is a full-time, in-person position based at the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce office.
The Chamber is a small, highly active team serving a large and engaged membership. The pace is often fast, priorities can change quickly, and interruptions are part of the work. The successful candidate will be someone who can stay organized, communicate clearly, maintain a sense of humor, and remain committed to excellent service even when the day does not go exactly as planned.
Some early mornings, evenings, or event-related hours may be required.
Compensation
This is a full-time, salaried position. Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and the Chamber’s internal compensation structure.
