Library Assistant - Adult Services

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.- Help with the opening and closing of department area and library
- Assist patrons in navigating the library: finding books, information, events, etc….
- Assist patrons at the departmental service desk, including questions about technology
- Develop and implement library programs geared for adults, at least 1 per quarter.
- Be familiar with Petoskey District Library policies, procedures and routines
- Collection maintenance including, but not limited to: cataloging, processing, mending, weeding, inventory
- Straighten and clean department, and other monthly tasks, as needed
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.- High school diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Computer skills, a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, library skills, knowledge of emerging technologies are preferred
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a dedicated focus on providing a warm, welcoming, and empathetic experience for all patrons.
- Comfortable with troubleshooting technology questions with patrons
- Ability to change work priorities as needed
- Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with the public and other employees
- Ability to work independently and with attention to detail
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
- Ability to match library collections with patron needs
