    SUMMARY: Deliver exceptional, high-quality care to patients at the LTBB Clinic. Responsibilities include performing and assisting with clinical procedures, maintaining medical equipment, conducting laboratory procedures, providing direct patient care, updating medical charts, and fulfilling front desk duties as assigned by the clinic manager or medical director.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide excellent customer service to clients and vendors and fellow employees, and represent LTBB Health Department in a professional, positive manner.
    • Recognizes and is sensitive to the cultural dimension inherent in the practice of health education in Native American communities. Must be culturally competent and meet the health literacy and linguistic needs of target populations.
    • Work as part of a team to provide excellent patient care to patients and fellow employees, and represent the LTBB Health Department in a professional, positive manner.
    • Perform selected clinical duties.
    • Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Take patient histories and vital signs.
    • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
    • Give injections, apply casts, splints, and dressings, draw labs, and complete testing as ordered by providers.
    • Use RPMS/EHR to review the patient chart and to enter information into the patient chart.
    • Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatment, including sterilization.
    • Assist the physician in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals.
    • Assist with scheduling tests and treatments.
    • Provide general information on department policies and procedures.
    • Maintain patient files, records, and other information.
    • Assist in front desk duties, such as answering phones, triage, scheduling appointments, and medical records, as requested by the clinic manager.
    • Compile and condense technical and statistical data for reports and records.
    • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
    • Assist with Health Department outreach and events as needed
    • Other duties assigned within the scope of the position.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated competence in the role of a medical assistant within a health clinic is required, with a minimum of three years of experience for certified individuals. For those who are not certified, a minimum of five years of relevant experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant education program or possess equivalent healthcare education.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Possessing a comprehensive understanding of medical practices and patient care is crucial for delivering effective support in this role. Familiarity with examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures is essential. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the medical equipment and instruments utilized in patient care, as well as an awareness of common safety hazards and precautions to ensure a safe working environment. A positive employment history, as substantiated by references, is required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Candidates must possess the ability to excel in a collaborative team environment while demonstrating professional communication skills and a positive demeanor. Adherence to employee policies and a strong commitment to reliability are essential requirements. Proficiency in taking vital signs, conducting phlebotomy, maintaining accurate records, and accurately recording test results is imperative. Furthermore, candidates should be capable of developing and sustaining quality assurance measures within the department. The ability to remain composed and effective during emergency situations is critical. Compliance with established guidelines and procedures, alongside the capacity for clear communication, is necessary. Additionally, candidates must exhibit strong computer skills, including competencies in data entry and the effective use of relevant software applications. Must be able to accept constructive feedback. Must be able to work as part of a team in delivery of Health Department goals. Conducts behavior in a manner that is professional and courteous to all patients and staff at all times.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be insurable by LTBB. Must maintain license and insurability throughout the duration of employment in this position. Current CPR certification is required.

    COMMENTS: Indian preference will apply (Preference will be given to qualified Native American applicants in accordance with the LTBB Indian Preference Statute). Individuals must pass a thorough background investigation, which includes a review of their criminal and employment histories. The individual must have a positive job history, including LTBB. Individual must take TB test and get influenza vaccination annually due to working in a health setting. LTBB Health Department is a scent free environment.

    ABOUT US: On Sept. 21, 1994, the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (LTBB) was federally reaffirmed with the signing of Public Law 103-324. The Tribe is governed by a nine-member Tribal Council who serve staggered terms. The LTBB Government presently employs over 200 employees across 3 branches and more than 20 departments, ranging from Healthcare to Natural Resources.
