Plant Sale
PETOSKEY — The Northern Michigan Master Gardener Association will host its Spring Plant Sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, in the T-Barn at the Emmet County Fairgrounds on Charlevoix Avenue in Petoskey. Shoppers will find a variety of plants available at bargain prices. Local Master Gardeners have been busy digging and dividing their favorite sun- and shade-loving perennials, herbs, ground covers and shrubs in preparation for this event. These home-grown plants are already acclimated to Northern Michigan so there is no need to harden them off before planting. All plants offered for sale have been state-inspected and certified. In addition to the outdoor plants, a selection of houseplants will also be for sale and a garden marketplace will offer books and magazines, garden tools, pots and planters, bird houses and garden art. Those attending the plant sale will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge in Smart Gardening, native plants, conservation, invasive species, the MSU Master Gardener program, and much more. Organizations and groups hosting informational tables include: Michigan State University Extension — helps people improve their lives by sharing the vast knowledge resources of MSU. Smart Gardeners — MSU Extension’s campaign using earth-friendly messages to help gardeners make smart choices in their own backyards. Wild Ones — promotes environmentally friendly, sound landscaping to preserve biodiversity through the preservation, restoration and establishment of native plant communities. Conservation Resource Alliance — works to preserve and protect Northern Michigan’s waterways, wildlife and forests for future generations. CAKE CISMA — Cooperative Invasive Species Management serving Charlevoix, Antrim, Kalkaska and Emmet counties. Proceeds from the Spring Plant Sale will continue the mission of the Northern Michigan Master Gardener Association of funding educational events and community projects throughout the year.
