Position Summary
The Communications Intern (Marketing & Digital Media) is a customer-service-oriented, detail-driven position that supports Bay View’s marketing, communications, and public relations efforts. Working closely with the Director of Donor Relations & Communications, the intern helps tell the story of Bay View through print, digital, and social channels; assists with marketing and PR needs; maintains electronic photo and communications archives; and ensures consistent branding across platforms.
This role collaborates with the Marketing and Communications team, staff, program directors, and committees to ensure messaging and promotional plans are carried out effectively throughout the season. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support events and programs.
Compensation & Employment Details

Pay: $16.00–$18.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)

Employment Type: Seasonal, full-time (40 hours per week)

Organization Overview
The Bay View Association (BVA) is a National Historic Landmark and an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit offering Chautauqua-style programming in Education, Performing Arts, Recreation, and Worship & Religious Life. The Bay View community includes 444 Victorian cottages, two inns, more than 30 historic buildings, and approximately 900 members along the shores of Lake Michigan.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Marketing Support

Produce and ensure timely distribution of printed, web-published, and emailed constituent communications, including the Town Crier (weekly printed newsletter published mid-June through August).

Assist with creating, editing, and proofreading Association publications and marketing materials.

Support the development and execution of press releases and media outreach.

Assist in capturing and sharing stories of Bay View programs, people, and traditions.
Social Media & Digital Content

Create Facebook and Instagram posts using Bay View templates and following the established social media plan and events calendar.

Assist with photographing events, programs, and campus life for use in social media and publications.

Manage electronic image files and assist with maintaining organized digital archives.
Distribution & Community Outreach

Distribute marketing materials to area locations as needed.

Assist with responding to customer inquiries and requests for information in a courteous, professional manner.

Work collaboratively with staff, program directors, committees, and volunteers on a wide range of projects.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Donor Relations & Communications.

Qualifications
-
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in marketing, communications, or a related field.

Entry-level experience with Facebook, Instagram, QR codes, live links, Canva, InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Office 365, and/or photography.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Willingness to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, community-focused environment.

Self-starter with curiosity and initiative.

Interest in nonprofit work, arts and culture, or historic communities preferred.

Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, managers, directors, committee members, consultants, and guests.

Background check required.
